Located 76 miles south of Denver in Colorado Springs is the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Open 365 days a year, this unique zoo gets its name from the mountain from which it is situated on. Upon entry, elevation is at 6,714 feet and at it’s highest it rises to 7,000 feet above sea level. However, the zoo is accessible to everyone and abides by the ADA so that all guests can enjoy the exhibits.

A favorite and must do is the giraffe exhibit. Visitors can come face to face and hand feed the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s giraffe herd. One of the largest herd’s in the United States.

If you are not up to walking in high altitude, the zoo offers a Mountaineer Sky Ride, in park shuttles, and scooter rentals. In addition, there are several gift shops and restaurants to make a day of it! Be sure to visit the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun during your visit. This historic mountain landmark sits at 8,136 feet above sea level and offers breath taking views of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak.
