Fusion is a one-to-one accredited private academy for grades 6-12. That means one student and one teacher per classroom with customized scheduling to fit their academic journey.
A new campus is opening in Denver, and Fusion Academy is a unique place that parents often have a lot of questions about what one-to-one schools look like and how they operate. Here’s a Q&A with the Head of School from the Fusion Miami campus, Maria Cardenas, where she addresses some of the most commonly asked questions.
Q: What is a day in the life like for a Fusion student?
A: With everything being customizable and individualized at Fusion, it’s hard to say! We look at the social-emotional needs of our students, as well as their academic needs. Many students come to us full-time, and we’re their school of choice for graduation. We also have students who may come to us for a few courses or even for tutoring on certain subjects. We’re open Monday-Friday from 7:30am-7:30pm, so students can take classes with us whenever it works best for their wants and needs.
Q: What does homework look like at Fusion?
A: We have Homework Cafés® on our campus where students do their homework in a relaxed environment between classes and at the end of the day. We provide everything our students need to be successful in completing their assignments—paper, pencils, laptops, scanners, and printers. We have a Fusion staff member in the Homework Café at all times that oversees and assists students with their homework when needed. When students finish class at the end of the day, they get to leave with the peace of mind that comes from being homework-free and spend the evening with their families or doing extracurricular interests.
Q: If all of the classes are one-to-one, how do students socialize?
A: Socialization is a big part of what we do at Fusion—it doesn’t just take place in the classroom! Students spend several hours a week in our Homework Café doing their homework and also engaging socially with their peers and teachers. Air hockey games, races, collaborative puzzles, and just hanging out happens every day for our students! Similar to larger schools, we offer clubs, field trips, and an annual prom! Students also vote monthly on different activities like movie nights, laser tag, bowling, and sporting events to attend as a school community.
